I Came, I Saw, I Glaciered

Cruising to Alaska

With Patti and Joe Kwashnak

August 2004

NOT is a northern duck, so when the chance to head north for the summer, (especially when he doesn't have to fly by himself) he jumps on it. He provides us a travelogue of his adventures.

Met Patti's nephew (J.J.'s cousin) Dan Woodruff in Anchorage. He drove us around for some sight seeing then we went out for dinner. Unfortunately his family was in the lower 48 on vacation so we missed seeing them.

I became friendly with our McKinley Explorer hostess on the eight-hour train trip from Anchorage to Denali National Park and Wilderness Preserve.

While on the Discovery III paddlewheel boat trip I met Jessie Royer, 2001 Iditarod Rookie of the Year, and her dog sled dogs. She was really nice but those dogs were a little scary.

Joe put me on the back of the sleigh at the foot of the world's tallest Santa, at North Pole, Alaska.

In Beaver Creek, Yukon Territory this Mountie and I discussed his horse. Actually he was an actor in the show we saw that night.

Rick, our float plane pilot out of Ketchican, introduced me to the bear that rides with him on each flight. The bear was nice but I found him to be a little flighty.

Resting on the bed in the cabin on the ship. I liked the veranda in the back so I could get fresh air.

Joe let me walk on the railing so I wouldn't slip on deck.

The life preserver is a little big for me though.

Relaxing on a bench on deck.

Joe thought I should learn the lifeboat procedures - just in case.

We take an afternoon stroll on deck.

We go to dinner on informal nice (The price of being so cute - everyone wants his or her picture taken with me.)

Vancouver, British Columbia - Joe protects me from the water in the fountain in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Our hotel, the Crown Plaza, is behind us.
