Clemson became the tigers when in 1895, football coach Walter Riggs brought the name with him from Auburn.


Limestone College

Founded: 1845 Limestone College
Nickname/Mascot: Saints / Saint Bernard (dog)
Colors: Blue, Gold
Location: Gaffney
Limestone was the first women's college in South Carolina, and one of the first in the nation. It was the third institution of higher education in South Carolina, and most of the original buildings were built using the stone quarried nearby that gave the school its name.


University of South Carolina, Columbia

Nickname/Mascot: Gamecocks / Cocky
Colors: Garnet, Black
Motto: Emollit mores nec sinit esse feros (Learning humanizes character and does not permit it to be cruel)
Location: Columbia
Founded as South Carolina College, the flagship university in the University of South Carolina system is a powerhouse in the SEC and boasts 26 graduates have served as Governor of South Carolina.  (One governor attended USC but did not graduate having been expelled for plagiarism in 1888. Insert your own training for a career in politics joke here.)


University of South Carolina, Upstate

Founded: 1967 USC Upstate
Nickname/Mascot: Spartans
Colors: Green, White, and Black
Location: Spartanburg
Formerly the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg the school changed its name to the University of South Carolina, Upstate in 2004. Not does his version of mooning them as his photo was taken.
